Cosmetic-grade pearl pigment is what turns a flat makeup formula into a product with depth, luminosity and movement. Our mica-based pearlescent grades are developed for cosmetic and personal-care formulations — pressed eyeshadow, lipstick, liquid foundation, nail polish and body shimmer — where a soft, even luster matters more than loud sparkle. In this article we walk through the application cases we see most often, and the specification choices that make each one work.
Eyeshadow and pressed-powder manufacturers are the most frequent users of our cosmetic pearl grades. A typical case pairs a fine particle size with a silver-white or interference shade to build a smooth, buildable sheen across the lid. Because the pigment is plate-like mica, it lays flat in the pan and keeps a silky, non-gritty feel — the tactile quality buyers expect from a premium powder eye product.
Lipstick and lip gloss call for a different balance. The pigment must survive oil-based, high-shear mixing and stay stable through heating and cooling cycles. Our cosmetic grades are selected for dispersibility in oils and esters, so the pearl distributes evenly without clumping — a crucial point for a clear gloss or a translucent tinted balm, where any aggregation shows immediately on the lip.
In liquid foundation, BB cream and skin-care emulsions, pearl pigment adds a healthy luminosity without reading as glitter. The case we see most is a low use level of a white or pink interference pearl blended into a tinted base to create a soft-focus, lit-from-within finish. Compatibility with the emulsion phase is checked formula by formula, and COA and MSDS are provided so formulators can document every batch.
Nail polish and gel systems are a growing application case. Pearl grades here must suspend well in the base and keep their interference color under UV curing and topcoat. We supply TiO₂-coated interference series and TiO₂-free (titanium-free) series by grade, so brands with specific regional compliance requirements can specify exactly what their formula needs — without over-specifying the whole range.
Every cosmetic grade is produced in our GMP workshop and shipped with full documentation: COA and MSDS on request, with lot traceability on every delivery. We have supplied effect pigments to manufacturers for more than 20 years and ship to customers in over 100 countries. To start a case of your own, tell us your product type, base system (oil- or water-based), target shade and use level; we will recommend a grade and particle size and ship trial samples within 3 working days. Orders start from 1 kg, with a standard lead time of 7 days.
