How-to guides for formulators, OEM brands and private-label buyers - built from real buyer-intent clusters
For makeup applications we recommend our Cosmetics Grade Pearl Pigment range: mica flakes coated with thin metal-oxide layers that produce a smooth, iridescent shine. These grades are produced in our GMP workshop and supported by FDA, Kosher and ISO 9001 certificates, which we can email on request together with the relevant COA/TDS. If your brand formulates for the EU, US or other regulated markets, share your target application and we will confirm the right grade and documentation before sampling.
The ideal grade depends on the effect and vehicle. For pressed powders and eyeshadows, formulators usually choose fine, soft-shine grades so the pigment blends without a gritty feel. For lip gloss, balms and liquid formats, higher-flash iridescent grades give a more dimensional glow. Send us your base formula and target effect, and we will recommend a Cosmetics Grade Pearl Pigment match within 48 hours — our standard color-matching window.
We supply cosmetic pigment brands as an OEM/ODM/OBM partner and support private-label programs. You can develop a signature shade through our custom color-matching service, which typically returns a matched sample within 48 hours, and free samples ship within 3 working days so your lab can validate before you commit. Trade Assurance covers returns, replacements and rework on qualified orders.
Cosmetic-grade glitter and edible glitter are different products and must not be mixed. Cosmetic Grade Glitter is engineered for makeup contact (eyes, lips, face) and is produced in our GMP workshop with the same FDA/Kosher/ISO 9001 documentation set. Edible glitter, by contrast, is made for food and must only be used on food. If your project is a lip or ingestible-adjacent product, tell us the intended contact surface — we will route you to the correct compliance family and certificates.
For export we provide a standard documentation pack: FDA, Kosher and ISO 9001 certificates, GMP workshop statement, plus COA and TDS per batch. This covers most brand onboarding and regulatory review needs for the US and EU markets. Because regulations change by region and end-use, we recommend your compliance team review our documents against your target market — and we are happy to fill in specific questionnaire fields your buyer requests.
Nail polish needs shimmer that suspends in solvent-based lacquer without settling or clumping. Our solvent-resistant, Cosmetic-Grade pearlescent and chameleon pigments disperse evenly and hold color through curing. We supply FDA, Kosher, ISO 9001 and GMP documents on request — Cosmetic Grade is for external use only and is not edible; keep it separate from food-grade lines.
Liquid bases need a fine, smooth-shimmer particle that disperses in emulsion without a gritty feel. Our Cosmetic-Grade pearl grades are milled for soft-touch finish and stable tinting; choose white/silver for a natural glow or interference shades for a soft-focus effect. Documents (FDA/Kosher/ISO 9001/GMP) available; Cosmetic Grade is external-use only, not for ingestion.
Alcohol- or water-based mists need a decorative particle that suspends and rinses away safely. Our Cosmetic-Grade glitter is sized for even float in low-viscosity formulas and stays put until wash-off. We provide FDA/Kosher/ISO 9001/GMP files on request; Cosmetic Grade is for skin-contact decoration, not edible.
Masks and skincare want a gentle, water-stable shimmer that won't irritate. Our Cosmetic-Grade pearl is formulated for rinse-off and leave-on formats with a mild, inert profile. FDA/Kosher/ISO 9001/GMP documents available on request; Cosmetic Grade is external-use only and must not be confused with food-grade.

Natural mica, synthetic mica or borosilicate — pick by purity, heat resistance and budget.
| Substrate | Purity | Luster | Heat / Weather Resistance | Compliance / Cost | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Natural Mica | Good | Warm, natural pearlescence | Moderate | Cost-effective; widely accepted in color cosmetics | General eyeshadow, nail polish, body glitter where cost matters. |
| Synthetic Mica | Very high | Bright, clean reflection | High | Higher purity, premium cost; preferred for sensitive/leave-on skin | Liquid foundation, lip gloss, skincare, high-end color cosmetics. |
| Borosilicate | Highest clarity | Glass-like sparkle / high transparency | Very high | Premium; exceptional clarity and optical depth | Lip topper, high-shine eye products, fragrance suspension, luxury effects. |
Directional starting points — adjust to your base and process. (Not a fixed formula.)
| Base Type | Directional Loading | Dispersion Tip | Compliance Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oil-in-water foundation / BB cream | Low-to-mid loading; adjust for desired glow | Pre-disperse in glycerin or emollient before adding to emulsion; avoid direct high-shear milling of dry pearl. | Cosmetic-grade only; external use; not edible. |
| Solvent-based nail lacquer | Low loading; solvent-resistant grade required | Add pearl to the nitrocellulose/solvent phase under moderate stirring; roll mill gently to preserve platelets. | Use cosmetic-grade, solvent-resistant series; confirm flammability/storage rules locally. |
| Alcohol / water body mist | Very low loading; size for suspension | Hydrate or pre-wet pearl/glitter before adding to the alcohol/water blend; keep viscosity high enough to slow settling. | Cosmetic-grade decorative only; avoid eye area; not for ingestion. |
| Rinse-off face mask | Low loading | Disperse pearl in the aqueous or glycerin phase before combining with clays/thickeners. | Cosmetic-grade external use; patch-test if sensitive skin positioning is claimed. |

For most eyeshadows, 15–30 µm is the sweet spot: visible pearl with good skin adhesion. Use < 15 µm for satin/pressed bases and 30–60 µm for loose sparkle. We supply sample sets so you can test compression and payoff.
We offer cosmetic-grade grades supported by FDA, Kosher, ISO 9001 and GMP documentation on request. For lip-area use we recommend specific fine-grade cosmetic pearls — share your formula and market so we can confirm the right grade.
Pearl gives a smooth, reflective glow; glitter gives discrete sparkle. For lip gloss we usually recommend fine pearl ( < 30 µm) for comfort, or cosmetic-grade fine glitter if a disco-sparkle effect is required. Both are external-use only.
Some pearlescent grades cross over, but nail polish needs solvent-resistant treatment to prevent bleeding in lacquer. Eyeshadow can use standard cosmetic pearl. Tell us both applications and we’ll map the correct grade/certification.
Yes — our solvent-resistant pearl and chameleon series are formulated for nitrocellulose and UV/LED gel systems without color migration or settling.
Cosmetic-grade is produced under stricter purity, particle-size and microbial controls for skin contact; industrial grades are for coatings/plastics. We never recommend industrial grades for cosmetics.
Yes, our < 25 µm cosmetic-grade pearl is suitable for rinse-off masks and leave-on skincare when used at typical decorative levels. It is external-use only and not edible.
We can provide Halal-compliant formulations and supporting documents where applicable. We do not claim a blanket “Halal certified” status for all products; we confirm per grade and market.
Synthetic mica gives the cleanest, brightest reflection and best purity for leave-on lip products; borosilicate adds a high-clarity glass sparkle if the formula is clear or lightly tinted.
Start with a low directional loading and increase until the desired shimmer is visible without a gritty feel. Our fine cosmetic pearl disperses well in oil-in-water emulsions; pre-dispersion in a small amount of emollient helps stability.
Our synthetic mica and borosilicate-based pearls are mineral/synthetic and do not contain animal-derived ingredients. We can confirm the specific grade and supply a statement on request.
